How Do You Balance It All? Follow These Everyday Health Tips, Parents

We won’t keep you long—we know how busy you are, and that can sometimes mean opting for the quick and easy choice rather than a healthier one.

Whether it’s staying energized to make your way through your workday and your kids’ activities afterward, or carving out a few extra minutes to stay active and work out, it’s not easy. And it’s not just you—it’s your whole family.

But there are plenty of choices you make throughout the day, every day, that can make an impact on your overall health. Here are some tips:

Eat and Snack Right. Easier said than done, right? Right. But not impossible, especially not with a bit of thinking ahead.

Meal planning can be your best friend here. Performing the upfront work of mapping out your breakfasts, lunches and dinners throughout the week means there’s no last-second scrambling when Wednesday evening rolls around…and no resorting to delivery pizza. It’s really no more difficult than making a weekly shopping list, or better yet, download a meal planning app to help you get started.

You can also make some simple snack substitutions; ditch the potato chips in favor of some veggies, dried fruit and nuts, apples, or even a spoonful of peanut butter for a quick protein boost.

Be Active Where You Can. Maybe you don’t always have the time to get to the gym for a full workout, but that’s no excuse not to pack in those active minutes where and when you can. If you have a wearable fitness tracker, you can set notifications to alert you at set time intervals to get moving, or take a few extra steps.

Stay Energized. Throughout a long day of work and running around, it can be a challenge keeping your energy levels up without resorting to caffeine or energy drinks. Feeling sapped? Chug a glass of cold water. Not only is dehydration a common cause of fatigue—and can happen without realizing, especially while running around—but the cold water can be invigorating. 

Maintaining your energy throughout the day is important, no matter who you are or what you have going on.
